Beginnings

Dear Spirit to Spirit friend,

With the new year beginning, I have found myself gently pondering so many of the beginnings we experience in our lives, especially the ones we share with our animal family members.

If we go back to the beginning of our shared lives- whether our animal family member arrived as a rescue, from another family or another place- to that moment when life began anew for this being and for us. The moment in which we said "yes" to each other. A moment in which all of our lives profoundly changed forever, we can see how opportunities for endless beginnings opened between us in our lives together.

We are often so excitedly engaged in the moment of our first coming together that we forget to stop and take in the significance of it. The depth of the agreement we have made, human and animal, to each other- to learn to know each other, to discover love with each other, and to live a shared life. A huge "yes" to each other....an extraordinary commitment of love and care.

Perhaps now is a great moment to remember back to that time. To who we were, to who our animal was. And to track the journey of our lives together and see who we are today and who our animal is. We may be almost unrecognizable today- and our animal family member too- given all the ways in which we have grown and changed, individually and together.

And remember to tell your animal family the story of your life together and all the extraordinary ways in which you have come to be the deepest of intimates with each other.

It is a story always looking to be told.
